Funding Your Public Cloud Journey with Multi-Vendor Services

MVS for Public Cloud

As CIO’s consider their cloud architecture of the future, they often grapple with the time, cost, and complexity of migrations and application refactoring.  Budgets and timelines for these projects can spiral out of control without proper management and staffing.

Multi-Vendor Services (MVS) are a powerful lever for IT leaders to redirect non-strategic OpEx (e.g. server, network, and storage maintenance on legacy systems) to strategic initiatives like digital modernization in the cloud.  With MVS, CIO’s can simplify and consolidate multi-vendor management and billing, fill skills gaps for legacy systems, and maintain or even improve SLAs in an aging environment during a migration effort.  MVS also provides commercial flexibility to add or remove systems from support over time as they age out of inventory.  And, MVS can also address the secure data erasure and asset decommissioning and environmentally friendly disposal for those systems.

What will you do with your legacy systems?

Migrate & RepurposeMigrate & MoveMigrate & Retire
Enterprise systems like storage arrays and network switches are durable and can function well past their original warranty period. In many cases, they might be cascaded from a production tier to a secondary tier like development, backup, or lab work.Organizations looking to eliminate or scale back their data center footprint might consider moving aging systems to either a secondary facility (e.g. DR site) or leveraging a third party co-lo or managed service provider. At the end of a systems useful life, retirement will be a multi-step process. For storage systems and servers with internal storage, data erasure is recommended. Those systems will then need to be decommissioned through a certified process and disposed of.
