Because call home is an integral part of the NetApp product line there is no infringement of proprietary property when this function is used by someone other than the OEM.

CDS takes full advantage of this by simply re-directing the call home to the CDS operations center where it is analyzed by the technical support group. Once the failure is analyzed a field technician and or parts are dispatched as required.  Since most NetApp products are customer self maintained CDS typically will place common failure parts onsite or in a location readily accessible to the end user.
